peace on earthAt any given moment you can turn on the TV, Radio or look on the internet and see some kind of horrific act of violence.  Seems like not a week goes by and we hear about students and teachers being shot to death by another student, someone shooting widely into a crowd, killing as many as they can or parents and children’s lives being taken by another family member or total stranger.

It used to be answering the door was fun.  Full of excitement and enthusiasm wanting to see who is going to greet us on the other side.  Now answering the door could be the end to your life.  Why is this world we live in going in the wrong direction.  Why does evil feel so strong?  What have we done to make our children, neighbors and total strangers want to kill each other?  Have we become so self- absorbed that we cannot see the pain in others around us?  Have we become so use to the killing that we kick it aside as if we are kicking off our shoes for the day?

Every time I hear about some horrific act I want to know why.  What makes a person HATE so much?  What happened so bad throughout their life that made them want to hurt others?  When I think about the state of mind one must be in I wonder if all HOPE had washed away from their lives.  Did they have no FAITH that things would get better.  Obviously they had the evil physical strength and courage to kill another human being, but they didn’t have the true God given STRENGTH and COURAGE not to kill.  Was there no INSPIRATION around them to LOVE?

Over the past couple weeks every time I heard about another life ending in tragedy, the song “Let There Be Peace On Earth” played like a soft melody in my head.  Over and over again the lyrics would play, which brings me to my writing today.  If I am going to make a difference in this world I have to put into action what the lyrics of this song commands.

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with ME.  The PEACE that was meant to be!  With God as our father.  Brothers all are we, let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.  Although I don’t know if perfect harmony can exist in this world today, I do believe there will be perfect harmony in Heaven.   As I continue to live out my days on this earth I am willing to take something even remotely close.

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with ME and YOU!  Let this be the moment now.  Not later, after we kick off our shoes.  But Now!  Let this be mine, yours and everyone’s solemn vow.  If each and every one of us in this world lived by these lyrics what a “close to perfect” world it would be.

Life sucks sometimes.  Yeah maybe for some it can be harder than it is for others.  I can certainly attest to that first hand.  But never has that brought me down to the debts of wanting to hurt another human being, even if they were hurting me.

I challenge you to take this vow with me.  I am not asking you to be perfect at it, I know I will fail at many attempts, but I challenge you and I am challenging myself to try.

“I vow if I know or see another person hurting, hungry, and has lost all hope I will walk with with them in harmony.”

Luv, luv,
