On Sunday the boys and John decided to go fishing with their friend Kyle and his dad Glen. They went to Miami Whitewater, rented a pontoon, and fished until noon. They had a blast. Upon arrival back to the dock my oldest son Johnny was at the helm. As he was approaching the dock the pontoons horn begins to ring out. Over and over again, bonnnnnnk, bonnnnnnk, the loud noise of a horn keeps blaring. My son is in panic mode. He can’t seem to figure out what is going on. He hides his embarrassment well under that thick dark red beard.
I can only imagine my husband face. I have no doubt he had is head down, slouched over, thinking to himself, “Oh crap, what happened, everyone is looking, where can I go?” (I giggle just thinking about his reaction). I am sure everyone else was wondering what was happening and wishing they too where somewhere else.
Horn is still blaring. Joey, my youngest, trying to reach out and pull the pontoon in as soon as possible, so he can jump off and run. Bonnnnnnk, bonnnnnnk. Johnny, by now is cursing, “what the hell is going on?” not sure why the pontoon is making so much noise.
The young cashier comes rushing out of the cabin and down the dock yelling, “Is everything ok? Is everything ok? “, as if there is some kind of medical emergency. Yes, we are fine, Johnny tells her under his breathe, as the roaring sound comes to a halt when he leans back and takes his knee off the horn.
We all laughed hysterically as they recounted the day’s events. It’s was a perfect ending to a “making memories” kind of day.
I wish I could tell you that Sunday ended on a happy note. It ended as God planned it. Later that day we made our way to hospice where John’s dad would come to a peaceful, no more pain, resting place. We all got to say our goodbyes. John’s dad was so worried about him. John told him over and over again as he gently stroked his head, “I am ok dad, I am ok, don’t worry about me dad, I will be ok”.
We are all sad to lose such a wonderful father, but are at peace in knowing he is no longer in pain, with his son Steve, and in the best possible arms ever. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
John began his third round of chemo this week. John looks good and for the most part is feeling good. He does feel “icky” at times, but he never really complains much. He will have one more round of chemo before he is re-scanned. The plan is to begin radiation after Thanksgiving, as long as all goes well with the re-scan.
Life is as normal as normal can be. Boys continue go to school and work. I continue taking care of everyone and work. We all continue to LOVE and do our best to make wonderful, hysterical, memories.
Luv, Luv,
Julie
