johnWhen I read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 I think of my husband John.

(4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (5) It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

(8) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

My husband is my best friend, my closest confidant and the love of my life.  He has loved me unconditionally for 20 years.  Looking in from the outside people might say there is no way a person can provide unconditional love.  Everyone has conditions and limits to what they can provide.

Throughout my 46 years I have never experienced Love from another human being quite the way my husband loves me.  He has and still does support me in all I do.  He is not envious of my successes or failures.  He does not talk with excessive self- pride, although sometimes I wish he did.  He will, however, tell you how incredibly proud he is of his sons.  To my knowledge he has never dishonored me or asked me, “What’s in it for him?”

He is the most gentle and kind person I have ever known.  He is not easily angered and holds no grudges against me for all the times I have gotten angry.  He has protected my heart for 20 years; holding it gently in his hands.  He always trusts me and believes in me.  He has hope for our family’s future, yet preserves the love between us all.

My husband’s love has never failed me, not once.  His humor makes my stomach and face hurt.  His hugs make me feel secure.  His kiss makes me feel young.  His looks let me know he is still interested.  He always complements me even when I am at my worst.

My husband is not perfect.  In my eyes however he is the perfect love for me.  I can never imagine how my life would be on this day without him.  He has unknowingly taught me so much about love and kindness it constantly fills my soul.  He is my light in my darkness.  He is my warmth in the cold and the air that energizes my life.

I can tell you with the utmost confidence when John was placed in my life God knew exactly what the plan was.  God’s plan is working.  It’s the greatest plan and one of the many ways God makes me smile!

I love you John Metzger.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

Luv, luv,

Julie
